The Collapsable hole
Friday July 25th 2025
GO SEE THIS AND I MEAN IT. If you’re new to Object Collection, go with as little context as possible. If you’re an OC head, go because it’s your duty to. The Mutual Obliteration series is one of the best things this city has to offer. I LOVE OBJECT COLLECTION <3

LifeWorld

Listen, I do not understand what goes on in the mind of William Sydney. I saw NOT CALM in May ‘24 and left going, what was that. I still don’t get it, tbh, but that’s never stopped me. The best descriptor of William’s work is “evil” and you know what, sure. Let’s get evil. Rec’ing early because it only runs two nights at Life World!

I have not missed a William Sydney project since I met him in 2021. GAH! This will be the first one. So, obviously, I will want reports. William takes big swings. And very different big swings each time. Another recurring aspect of his work - REVEALS. Which implies surprises. And that is what I want every time I see theater and what I so rarely get.

Kurosawa in 4K : Akira Kurosawa
Film Forum
July 18th-31st 2025
One week remains in Film Forum’s festival celebrating a batch of new restorations of the films of pioneering Japanese director Akira Kurosawa. Samurai, Tokyo detectives, a King Lear adaptation, a MacBeth adaptation, a heist on the Shinkansen, a meditation on the nature of truth, and a half dozen reasons to savor the range and expression of Kurosawa’s fave actor Toshirō Mifune! Nine films, career-spanning from 1949 to 1985, and many of which have not shown stateside in these new restorations. Screenings continue through July 31. Come through!

Mabou Mines
Saturday July 26th 2025
I did a whole ass interview (read it in The Soapbox) swirling around this project, so needless to say, it is a PICK for me! There is so much packed into this personal tale about a Lad’s Dance, you will probably need a cigarette after.
