This is the final week of Sugar Sugar! 2026 and it is not to be missed. Malcolm-X Betts and Kat Sotelo are pushing the boundaries inside of themselves and inside of art and outside at the park. I feel very fortunate to experience their double bill twice.

Lugar de Consuelo (Place of Solace) : Naufus Ramírez-Figueroa, Wingston Gonzalez, Stephanie Acosta, Nicolette Henry
Museum of Modern Art
June 25th-28th 2026
Guatemalan artist Naufus Ramírez-Figueroa, with an ensemble directed by Stephanie Acosta, present a radical movement surreal clown performance ritual at MoMA. In conversation with Ramírez-Figueroa's MoMA gallery show, this activation explores the violent impacts of institutions of power: the state, the church, the wealthy. With a text by brilliant aching poet Wingston Gonzalez, and with wildly gorgeous costumes by Ramírez-Figueroa with costume fabricator Nicolette Henry, only three shows remain: 6/25, 6/27, 6/28. Come through!.

Kestrels

I saw a work Nico created/directed at ?!: New Works very recently, adapted from the writings of David Wojnarowicz, called "Nineteen/Ninety/One" composed physically with seven performers and it was truly a sight to fucking behold. The use of darkness! The choreographic specificity! So, naturally, I am excited to see whatever else Nico is up to, and I love seeing something at Kestrels. Three nights only!!! Get in there bitches!!

Its true, its true! And the other thing is, my sister had a baby and I took it over after she passed away and the baby lost all its legs and arms and now its just a stump but I take care of it with my wife and... and its growing and its fairly happy... and its difficult because I'm working a second shift at the factory to put food on the table but all the love that I see in that little guy's face it makes it worth it in the end. True story. - Shark Tale (2004). [go see this WIP from some of the zaniest in NYC]

STAR AND STAN : Star & Stan (played by Reed Rushes & Kate Williams) + special guests
Entrance (113 Wolcott Street Brooklyn, NY 11231)
June 26th-27th 2026
You've probably seen these performance art weirdos slathered in body paint around your local DIY venue. Star and Stan manage to do subversive parodies of Heterosexual Capitalist Culture while being straightforwardly sexy as performers. This ambitious new work is a psychological thriller that involves an expanded cast of very talented dancers (who I happen to be friends with). Come to this show, get a hot dog and wonder, "Why is society like that?" Or maybe, "Is society like that?"
*The first 50 people to arrive get a free hot dog!
