The Essence & the Choice : Matty Davis
Pageant
September 4th-5th 2025

I am, respectfully, a sucker for sentimentalism but there’s something so compelling about this work that seems to merge photography, parenthood, and experimental performance in one package. Fatherhood is an unwieldy beast so I’m curious to see how this show (that features Davis’s teenage stepson!) tries to wrestle with it.

Brooklyn College’s Bring a Weasel and a Pint of Your Own Blood Fest : Ann Marie Dorr, Claire Greising, Andrew Hardigg, Kurt Chiang
LifeWorld
September 4th-7th 2025

I'm always looking for a play to change the color of the air in the room its in, and I think my odds are high at Weasel. Directed by the wonderful Hanna Yurfest, I can't wait

Dudes. I am so excited for this and I actually get to attend! Reasons to also attend:
1. This line-up of writers is brilliant.
2. LifeWorld is really cool and if you have been there you know that and if you have not been there you need to find out.
3. I am into the theme.
4. You will definitely be in an audience with good company.
5. It is an ongoing project that keeps evolving and I am so glad it exists.

Good Grief: in Sigh Fidelity : Time Wharp, Ben Bondy, Greg Fox
Public Records
Friday August 29th 2025

Deploying an expansive palette of drones, beats, horns, guitars, blips, etc, Kaye Loggins, who performs and releases music as Time Wharp, makes the best kind of experimental music: Sound and song that journeys with deep curiosity. On Time Wharp’s 2022 LP “Spiro World”, I feel like we get to hear Loggins making discoveries and tracing paths into the unknown. And importantly, we are invited along, encouraged to wander with. Having seen and delighted in past performances, I suspect this live set will be strange, warm, openhearted, and exploratory. Ben Bondy, and wide-ranging percussionist Greg Fox, open. Come through!

DINNER : Mack Lawrence, Logan gabrielle Schulman, Mirage Auto Depot Ensemble
Brick Aux
September 4th-7th 2025

I met Logan when they helped produce one of my works and not only are they a great champion of cool art but also a maker of cool art! A dinner party... devised from dinner parties? Queer tragicomedy? Young artists making new, fascinating work? Get on it!

The Matriarchs : Liba Vaynberg, Dina Vovsi, Rachel Botchan, Molly Carden, Helen Cespedes, Rebecca S’manga Frank, Arielle Goldman, Anna O’Donoghue, Frankie Placidi, Anna & Kitty Inc
TheaterLab
September 10th-28th 2025

Girls, gods, mothers: sign me up. Maybe you identify as one of those or are at least an admirer, either way, I think there will be much to admire in this sprawling and poignant play. Also, check out all the pre/post-show engagement opportunities, some nifty partners are involved!

Staffer: Billy McEntee

Another show I actually get to attend! I feel SO lucky. Listen, I am a fan of the writer, a fan of the space and I have been fortunate to do audiobooks with the INCREDIBLE Rachel Botchan. Those are enough reasons for me to want to go. But also, this piece has had really great development and is now being self-produced because theater is not just meant to be developed (that is a great part of it…) but experienced fully. So, we gotta support.
